My Diabetes Home knows how important support and resources are for people with diabetes. So, we’re rounding up some of the best. This spring, MDH is connecting you with our favorite bloggers from the diabetes online community. Enjoy!
Blog: Sweet Success: My life with Type 2 Diabetes
Person behind the words: Kate Cornell
Type of diabetes: Type 2
About her blog: “I started my blog as a way to keep myself focused on my own diabetes. If, along the way, I was able to help others, that would be a bonus! One of the hardest parts of dealing with diabetes is the emotional side of things. We (hopefully) learn how to change our lifestyle to better control our diabetes, but that isn’t easy to do. Finding like-minded people along the way is a valuable asset. When someone else says, “me too!” it helps a bit to deal with it all. Just knowing that you’re not alone helps so much.”
Why we love it: Kate works hard to give diabetes management tips for real people. She knows everyone is different, so she doesn’t like to push one lifestyle over another. Instead, she openly and honestly shares what works–or doesn’t work–for her.
Area of expertise: Diet and nutrition, diabetes tools and gadgets, coping with emotions
A word from Kate: “One of the things that many people find difficult to accept is that diabetes is a progressive disease. Attempting to control the beast takes vigilance. Making changes along the way to what we eat and working with our healthcare provider to tweak medications is important. My best advice: Take one day at a time; one thing at a time. Don’t try to change everything at once. Your diabetes didn’t develop overnight so don’t think you can tame it all at once. Diabetes isn’t fun but it is something we can all live with. Heck, if I can do it, so can you!”
